A Letter from Austin
April 2009
G’day! Wow, it’s been a while since you heard from me. I am Austin.
I live in Australia. I am 11 years old and very athletic. I love
sports. My favourite sport is probably softball. Other sports I like
too are soccer, rugby, basketball, handball, and the very Aussie
sport – cricket. I’m even really good at double dutch jump rope. For
those of you who do not know what double dutch is, it is the same as
skipping with one rope except you have two ropes. The hardest part
about double dutch is jumping in and keeping good rhythm. Some of
the Aussie icons we have here are the kangaroo, emu, platypus,
cockatoo and the yucky snakes. They eat this stuff called vegemite
here but I think it’s very yucky. To me, I think it tastes very,
very salty with a bit of soap!! That’s what I think!! I enjoy very
much meat pies, passion fruit drinks and grilled tomatoes. It was
great to have my Granny & Grandaddy here for the holidays. I miss
them now. We even went camping at the beach. But as it is, I kind of
got my accent back while they were here. Sometimes it is hard being
to be like an Aussie because people still notice your accent. I have
made many friends here. We like to play the Wii. I raised all of my
money to get my Wii. It was tough but it was worth it. It is a fun
game to play on the TV. I used to have an X-box but it went out of
date. So I worked hard and got a Wii. I have been in Australia for
almost nine years. We used to live in Yeppoon but now we live in
Jerrabomberra. I have been at Jerrabomberra School for four years. I
am going to Queanbeyan High school next year. I think I made the
right decision because it is a lot bigger and our principal is a
Christian. I am a Christian myself. I got saved two years ago. For
those of you who don’t know what a Christian is, hook up with my
Dad. He is a preacher at our church, Fellowship Baptist Church.
Well, he pretty much knows everything about Christianity and I mean
everything. My mum knows a lot too. She is our Sunday school teacher
at church. She’s very good at it. We get to do all sorts of crafts
and stuff. She has made Sunday school very fun in so many ways.
Since I’m getting older, I have started to get a very big appetite.
No more kids meals. I usually get two to three hamburgers at
McDonalds but let’s not get into that. Thank you for supporting us
and praying for us. I hope you will become a Christian if you’re not
already one. Bye!!
Love, Austin
