Reflection Moment
Come Clean!

“Come Clean!” We often hear that phrase when a policeman is interviewing a suspect or maybe when a mother is asking her child if he has done something wrong. Since we are decorating our soap dispensers this month, I thought it would be good to think about how we need to Come Clean in our own lives. In Psalm 119:9-12 David asks “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee”. David also asked the Lord to “Create in me a clean heart. Renew a right spirit within me.” He was definitely bothered by sin in his life. He had committed adultery with Bathsheba. Then he arranged to have her husband in the front line of battle so he would be killed which was exactly what happened. Then their firstborn son died. David needed to come clean. It is comforting to know that in his darkest times, David did turn to the Lord. When you get a chance, read Psalm 51 in its entirety. You will find there a man who is extremely distraught but finds cleansing and hope through God’s word and heeding to His commandments. God gave him that hope and comfort.

Is there anything in your life that needs cleansing? It may not be a sin like adultery but there may just be something really heavy on your heart. Maybe a relative you’ve never forgiven. Maybe it’s just that you are not spending enough time with your husband or children. Maybe it is time you got right with God and started a real relationship with Jesus Christ. Whatever it is, we are assured that the Lord will cleanse us and forgive us. 1st John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” That is so very comforting to me. Would you believe that there are actually websites where you can confess your sins and someone washes their hands of your sins? There’s another one where you can confess your friend’s sins and send them a message to come clean. I think that going straight to the Lord who is the only one who can truly wash away your sins and has already paid the price for them is the best and only real choice.

Think of a time when you got really dirty or sweaty. Maybe it was after a long workout or working in the garden. Do you remember how good it felt after getting a long, hot, soapy shower or bath? Just think how much better you will feel when you come clean from that “something” in your life that is coming between you and the Lord! Psalm 66:18 says “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:” That is scary. We need to be cleansed of those sins in our lives. It will be a burden lifted off your shoulders. Replace that guilt or bitterness with peace!

Confess those sins you have to the Lord and go out this week and make right whatever needs to be done in your life. You may need to go have a talk with someone. You may need to make some changes in your life. Every time you use your beautiful soap dispenser to make your hands clean, think about how much more you need to come clean on the inside!! It’s a great feeling. Make this week the time that you finally Come Clean.”
