The Lighthouse

I was growing tired
Of watching each ship come into shore.
I figured its time was up.
No one needed a lighthouse anymore.

Now we have fancy gadgets
To guide the ships safely in.
Radars have now replaced the light
Thanks to the intellect of men.

I was ready for something exciting.
This lighthouse was all I had known.
I wanted to set out for an adventure
Finally get away from what I called home.

The mighty ocean looked so inviting.
It's beauty was almost too much to behold.
I set out for a warm day's journey
Forgetting that the night would grow cold.

The majestic waves began to look fearsome
The wind picked up as I tightened my sails.
I tried to turn around in the other direction
But the winds quickly turned into huge gales.

The night closed in like a smothering blanket.
A piercing cold went right through my skin.
I was shivering uncontrollaby begging for mercy.
If only I had not tried to be like other men.

Why did I desire more than I was given?
Why did I want the things which were not mine?
Why did I leave the one thing I needed?
Would it still be there this one last time?

I called out to God to send me a light.
Nothing could replace what I felt was true.
I kept calling out in complete desperation
Then I saw something I truly knew.

There was the piercing light of my lighthouse.
Someone was sending the light out to me.
The storm had destroyed all modern methods.
But the light of the lighthouse I could clearly see.

I saw others around me also following the light.
I saw how that lighthouse guided them in.
I knew that nothing could replace the true light of God.
Not modern devices or intellect of men.

Jesus Christ is our lighthouse.
He knows that sometimes we will roam.
That is why He always keeps the light burning.
So we'll safely find our way home.

So when you think your life is boring
Remember that His Light you are to send.
You will not be bringing ships to the shore
But actually the souls of desperate men.
