The Battle

I became a soldier a few years ago
When I surrendered my life to the Lord.
He gave me His Spirit to live within me
And armed me with His Sword.

As I meditated upon His Word
The battle had already begun.
Satan was busy working on me
So I tried my best to run.

I knew I needed some armor.
This enemy was vicious and great.
I needed God's protection
Before it was too late!

The combat was not easy
But I knew I could not yield.
I continued to trust in the Lord
So faith became my shield.

Satan tried to attack my mind
Giving me evil thoughts each day.
I held on tight to my helmet of salvation
And Satan went away.

My Gospel shoes kept me going
Giving me a peace I could not understand.
They guided my feet away from the evil one
Towards the Son of Man.

I put on God's truth like a belt
Holding all the armor in place.
It helped me resist the Devil
And hold on to God's grace.

Because I was trying to live a righteous life
God kept my breastplate on.
Satan could not get to my heart
His plans were already blown.

His fiery darts could not get to me
Though he did put up a fight.
I knew my armor would protect me
As I prayed with all my might.

I knew I was the winner.
The battle had already been won.
I had claimed the victory over Satan and sin
The day I trusted God's Son.
