Urgent Prayer Request
July 28, 2010
To all my very dear praying friends,
Thought
I’d give you all the update on me since after 8 days and 7 nights in the
Acute Oncology Medical Ward at Auckland Hospital (which I promptly
dubbed THE RESORT), I’m finally back at our apartment at IBC. After a
couple of days and nights the fever dropped from it 103 and 104 degrees
down to 100 and 101 and then began to feel well enough to visit with the
other two ladies who were in the room with me. My prayer was to see the
Lord lift the depression they were experiencing and have the opportunity
to see the one who gives his children joy and blessed hope in all
circumstances. “The Resort” ward became a very happy place and provided
good opportunities to witness including a nurse and doctor who noticed
our room was “peaceful”.
I praise the Lord that because of the
length of time I had a great opportunity to witness to these two
ladies…… One, Moira, is a terminally ill woman who I had a good chance
to talk to and encourage. I left her with a very good salvation tract.
The other Lady, Glenda, still doesn’t know how she will go with the
second round of Chemotherapy. I had a very good opportunity to witness
to her and also left the same tract with her and a new lady that came in
as I was leaving.
Both ladies wanted to exchange phone numbers
and Glenda wants to get together again for coffee in the near future.
Moira, who was not expected to leave the hospital surprised the doctors
and is getting to go home today. So perhaps I was there for “such a time
as this” Your prayers helped to make it productive for the Lord. I know
spending a week in the hospital isn’t how I would have planned a
vacation….. but God had His eternal reason. Please pray my time spent
with these two ladies whom I would never have met otherwise, will bear
fruit.
Thank you all for praying for me. I so much appreciate
your prayers and encouragement for me and Steve. Pray I that I will be
able to take my next cycle of Chemo next Monday.
Love in Christ,
Lynn and Steve

Thank you so much for your prayers and messages of
encouragement. Prayer does make a difference. Lynn is responding very to
the antibiotic treatment the infection/fever is under control and she is
continuing to improve. Lord willing she expects to be released from
hospital Monday our time.

Please pray! Lynn was admitted to
Auckland Hospital this evening (NZ time). She has a chest infection and
they are planning to keep her 4-5 days after which time her white count
should be on the way up

Only one more treatment to go.
The new drug regime is proving much more difficult on Lynn. Her fatigue
levels are much greater and last longer. This is both frustrating and
worrying. As I write this Lynn is in bed with a 40 degree C fever from
just a common cold. Not a big deal for those of us not on chemo. For her
it’s a big deal because her immune system is at its lowest point. She is
on antibiotics and hopefully they will kick in before we have to
hospitalize her. We really covet your prayers at this time. Our Lord is
in control we know this. As a husband this is for me very deep water as
all I can do is watch, pray and carry water.
We are also
beginning to wonder what next. We asked the Dr how we would know if the
treatment has worked. His answer – “if she is cancer free in 5 years”
hummmm. This means that we won’t know and can’t know if or until the
cancer is detectable somewhere. Please take this matter to the Lord as
we really want to continue to serve Him in Vanuatu in the years to come.
We do know that He has planned our path and is giving us grace to walk
it.

We half way there! Praise the Lord! Lynn completed
her 3rd cycle of treatment Monday. She is still continuing to
tolerate the therapy well. She is tired a great deal and lacks
energy, which sometimes frustrates her. God is giving her grace and
we praise Him and thank you all for your intercessory prayers.
On June 21st she will start the 4th cycle. This will involve a
completely new group of drugs. We would ask that you pray that she
will tolerate these as well as she has the first 3 cycles. The
unknown is always a difficult thing to face and her response to
these new drugs is very much an unknown.
We are both anxious
to return to Vanuatu and continue our labour there. Please continue
to pray for our co-labourers, Jim and Ari Hirtzel. They are a real
blessing to us personally and to the work.
Finally we say
with Paul “… pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have
free course….”

Greetings
We are now into the second cycle
of six. That’s two down and four more to go. Lynn is responding well
to the chemo. The rough days are days 3-7 after the infusion. Lots
of joint aches and pains, and chronic indigestion and now of course
hair loss. She is now in a wig and in hats. A bald head is COLD in
the winter. I have joined her in this bald condition. Not really too
much to cut off of my head of course <grins>. If I can’t take the
discomfort of the chemo for her at least I can support and join her
in baldness for a cure.
She is keeping in a good humor about
it all.. Frustrations do come and they are difficult to deal with,
wanting to do something and not being physically up to doing it. We
are anxious to return home to Vanuatu but know that the Lord has us
here for His purpose. We are trusting the Lord in all of this to
make our time New Zealand a fruitful one for Him. Pray for our
co-laborers, the Hirtzels as two people do the work of four. They
are such a blessing to the ministry in Vanuatu.
So many of
you have written email and cards with encouragement, prayed and
helped us financially you’ll never know how much encouragement they
bring. You all are a tremendous blessing and encouragement to us,
sharing your hearts and prayers with us. We really believe that
Lynn’s toleration of the treatments is due to your prayers on her
behalf. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We know our great
God has everything under control.
Please keep praying.

Chemotherapy started today. Praise the Lord one
down and 5 more to go. Lynn did very well today, no adverse
reactions to the medications for which we are thankful. Pray that we
will over the course of treatment have an opportunity to share
Christ with those who are undergoing treatment at the same time.
Today there were 5 men and 6 women all at various stages of
treatment.
Thank you so much for your prayers. We are
certain that is what is making the difference. Please don’t stop.
