October-December 2009

                     Number 5

A Fast Paced, Event Filled, Successful Furlough - PTL!

BACK FROM FURLOUGH: Our 2009 furlough was fruitful in many ways and exciting to the end. We so enjoyed our time - the friends and family, seeing God’s work through our supporting churches and some answered prayer for projects -WOW!
We have been back for 3 weeks now and have literally hit the ground running. In the short time we’ve been home it seems like we have done months of catching up, and with Christmas on the way-we’re still running. This time, with a little Kiwi Coffee and some rest on the plane, jet-lag didn’t seem to hit us as bad as in times past. We have already finished one small building project, poured concrete, caught up on issues in our ministry, and are making preparations for our 2010 Family Camp in January - Whew!, Well, It’s good to be home.

FURLOUGH IS NOT FURLOUGH: Every missionary knows that a furlough is not a furlough unless there are appointed times of overcoming-kinks in the plan. My appointed time of overcoming was the sudden death of my brother, Charles Walker in August. I miss him, just like my Dad, but know that he is well and at peace with our Lord and Savior. Our kinks in the plan came about 3 weeks before leaving when David got very ill with flu and I took a turn for the worst after flu with pneumonia. Thankfully, we all fully recovered days before boarding for New Zealand.

MEDICAL UPDATE: After medical testing in the States, we now know that David’s condition from the stroke he suffered in February is called “Lambl’s Excrescences”. He will continue taking aspirin and we will monitor his health during our summer months as he seems to struggle with energy levels when the heat index is above 75. Continue to pray as February will mark 1 year and we are waiting for the 2 year mark without additional events. We thank you so very much for your prayer and encouragement concerning David-we are strengthened by your faithfulness and God’s strength.

WON-BY-ONE - We all have heard the phrase, “Won by one.” At present, we are watching it right before our very eyes. It all started with one of our faithful teens inviting a friend to youth camp this year. Lukas is a social sort of fella and brought Amandip - she accepted Christ. Even though it has brought persecution and ridicule from her family (strict Seik Indian), she told her sister she didn’t want her to go to hell-her sister, Dauljit, accepted Christ and is telling her brother that she doesn’t want him to go to hell,....she is also telling her friends at school and I am so looking forward to Sunday because she is bringing friends to church. If only we could fire up our souls like Lukas, Aman and Dauljit-the world could be won by one.
